Rent advice did I do something wrong

So I found a place that isn't far away from my job got hold of the guy and said I wanted two bedrooms an asked if I can move in January at end of the month he questioned y and I figured it be easier? I was wondering is it bad I asked if I can wait Until January an pay the security and 2 months up front?
