Hello all, Do any of y'all know of any websites where I may do a background check for possible tenants? Also, what type of background check should it be, should it be a credit and criminal background check?Lastly, should I have the tenants pay for it? Thanks for your help!

There are quite a few websites out there that you can use for background checks. I like to use local background check companies, personally.

When running a background check, we look at credit, income, criminal history, and rental references. I find that all of these are extremely important as a bad tenant can be very costly. You want to make sure the people that you rent to will take care of your property and will be able and willing to pay their rent each and every month on time.

You can set your own standards with the back ground check company regarding each area such as requiring income of 3x monthly rent, requiring a certain credit score, etc.
