Can I get previous landlord reference for a military applicant?

Everything else look good for this potential tenant. I believe I will rent to this military family. Just his current landlord told us: we can't disclosure any information of him. Just curious: legally, can new landlord ask past landlord what for a military candidate? I know we can't ask to make copy of their ID. Anything else can and can't landlord check for a military tenant? Thanks for help. Huiping

It may be their policy....just ask them if they'd rent to them again. That isn't disclosing any information and is really all you want to know anyway.
