MICE! Bid seems high...?

Question

We just bought a 4 plex in Akron, OH and it has mice apparently. Our property manager got a bid for $535 for pest control to address the issue. This seems high but I've never had to do this yet so please advise. Thanks!

What you don't know will bite you!

Factors to consider....

• Multiplexes require good pest management. This can be done by the owner or by hiring/contracting the services of others.
• Learn as much as you can about the problem you are facing.  Who identified the problem? What evidence did they see or hear? When did the problem begin? What is the extent of the problem now?
• Even if you don't want to get hands on with rodent control and exclusion, learn about it. Go to the internet and read sites that describe DIY pest control and those specifically related to mice. Watch some good videos to see how it's done.
• There are many rogue pest management services and many good pest management services. Start by contacting the professional pest control association in your state for tips on selecting those of greatest integrity and skill. Look for a company that does Integrated Pest Management (IPM).  Contact a few companies for bids.
• The bid you were given may be reasonable for your area and the extent of your problem, or it may be padded. Hard to assess that without knowing the scope of services you need and what the bid entails.
• We had a huge rat infestation problem at the primary home of my elderly mother. That was my foray into learning as much about this subject as possible. At first it seemed overwhelming and I was an easy target for rogue pest control companies because of my naivety. It was only after I was cheated and sought out support from the Oregon Pest Control Association that I became a more informed consumer. Not only that, I learned what I could do myself and what I preferred to leave to the professionals.
