Previous landlord won’t give information

When calling tenant’s current landlord they are refusing to give info because of tenant’s privacy. This is a property managed by a large management company and this is their policy. They’ve said payment history can be found on their credit report. Is this typical? Any advice?

@Amanda Berry I know that's common in employment settings, more for protection from liability than anything else.

The one question you might get an answer to and is worth a try is "would you rent to this person again?"
