Dear Community; I have a rental property and the property manager is scamming me. I am being charged more than reasonable prices for anything. 1)- I am asking for advice; how many of you are managing their own property? 2)- Is it an overwhelming task? 3)- Do you have good recommendations for a good handyman in case I choose to manage the property myself? Can you please advise, I am in desperate need for guidance. Thank you

@Sonny Samuelson

First thing I would do is ask for proof of all things being done. If they can not or will not provide that I would let them know you will be going to the state real estate commission to file a complaint if they do not make things correct.

Next I would be careful starting a business that is so litigious and process / procedure driven just because you have a bad business relationship. That to me is like saying you had a bad experience on a flight so you are getting your pilot license and going to fly yourself around on vacation and business trips.

Try to find a PM company that shares your goals and values.

I would go to www.NARPM.org there a good sorting of property management companies there. I would also interview them as they are going to ultimately be responsible for your success or failure. Make sure they align with your goals and your business practices and can be a partner to help you grow to achieve your goals not just collect the rentHow many people work for your company ?
