Yikes. I don't know why any landlord would let a Tennant touch anything on their investment. Tennant's aren't licensed electricians and shouldn't be doing any type of repair on someone's property.

If the light comes on then I’d say he was successful. Just run a thick  bead of caulking around it and call it a day ,after all he’s the slob that’s gotta live there .

The last house we rented we changed out the ultra cheap ceiling lamps and put in cheap ceiling fans in both bedrooms. Changed out the back door fixture that failed with a $5 or $10 lamp in a jar from Lowes. Did some paint and caulking and stuff, and management never complained. But we were there 15 years and almost never asked for anything either. They remodeled after we left.
