Resources for Determining Location of Rental Property

Hey Everyone, 

I live in NYC. I want to start investing in rental properties, but not in NYC. Im brand new to real estate and need help getting started.

I am wondering if you guys could help point me to some good resources for determining what cities I should invest in? 

Also what are some key components I should be researching to know what's a good market?
