I currently live in NY and own 3 houses here. I want to explore the NC market since NY is so expensive & tenant friendly. I plan to move that way once my son graduates HS (7 yrs from now). What neighborhoods are good? What are the evictions laws like? How’s the rental market?

Anything you would like to share would be greatly appreciated :)

I live in Raleigh/Durham (25 years) and would be willing to help answer your questions. RDU and Charlotte are the largest cities in NC and have the most cultural happenings other than Asheville. I'm a total newbie to REI and may just not be seeing the opportunity in the market, but I'm not seeing great deals for either city. SFH prices are jumping up and up (and due for a correction), and rental rates are more like 2% than 1%. There is a shortage of SFH under $200K. Developers are going nuts and building huge apartment complexes EVERYWHERE.

I don't have knowledge about eviction laws, yet.

As far as neighborhoods in Raleigh, the most desirable place to live is "inside the beltline", aka. 440, aka downtown Raleigh.  North Hills is also exploding and going upscale.  Not sure what other info might interest you.  Let me know.
