Water company scam????

Question

How is it possible that everyone in pearl Ms water bill like doubles in same month ?? We all can't possible have leaks . I mean at least a couple wouldn't . So how can it be possible ..? And what should we do?

@John Atkinson The FBI raided the LA water dept. due to suspicious billing. Myself and many others, including other public officials, think the Baltimore city water dept. is corrupt and doing illegal activity.

Some suggestions

• Contact some type of legal aid
• call the mayor and complain
• Can your state senator or other representative
• See if there is some type of ombudsman you can call.

It is possible the water rate increased. Often this time of year bills go up due to sprinkler usage, too.

Oftentimes there is a Utilities Commission (or something similar) for the state that you want to contact and have them investigate.

When looking at a utility bill do not just look at the dollar amount. Look at the consumption. You assumed "leaks" when your usage may be relative the same. If it is relatively the same, then you should follow the suggestions of the others in this post as it shouds like a rate increase

It looks like the city owns the water department there.  In that case, water rate increases usually have to be approved by the city council, board of aldermen, or equal.  If you dig through the meeting minutes from this year and last year, maybe you can find where they approved a rate increase.
