I am trying to get an acute price range for replacing a heating system and AC unit for a condo, aprox 1300 sq feet. The two estimates I received are 6K apart. The lower price was from the maintenance man who cleaned the furnace and recommended it be replaced. (It's 30 plus years old I knew it would need replacement when I purchased the property. Sellers gave me a few $$ at closing.) The maintenance man wrote out the estimate from the front seat of his company van and said the price will probably go up soon once winter hits. Needless to say, he was very shady, but his company does have good yelp reviews. The second quote was from a professional (also reputable company ) who looked over my property took measurements and present several options. It sounds like an easy choice but why such a difference in price?
I just looking for different opinions. This is in Massachusetts so those of you in the south don't freak when you see the prices.
Thanks
Mike

In CA for a unit about that size to install a new HVAC and vents was about $7500-$8k so being $6k apart is just crazy to me.

@Michael Mahan Both proposals were for simply swapping out a furnace & AC? If so that is an absurd price difference. I do know that pricing does vary across the state, for example, Cape Cod is more pricey than South Shore / Boston for the same services. I'd recommend getting a third quote and can recommend you, someone, if you are near my area. The other thing I would recommend is to apply for Mass Save for the rebate and if you want for financing. They are offering upwards of $2700 on HE units right now and 0% financing for 7 years.

Second the MassSaves route. I can see a $6k difference, especially if you called one of the big shops. I’d get another quote or two if you’re questioning but this shouldn’t be more than an $8k job
