Rent a room in my house

Posted

I want to rent a single room in a rowhome I own and live in to a single long term unrelated person in Philadelphia. Is this legal and do i need a rental permit in Philadelphia? I have done this before through Airbnb for an apartment i used to live in, but now I'm a homeowner. I report all the income on my tax return and pay city tax on the BIRT and NPT returns. I'm not using Airbnb this time. The house is up to code with fire extinguishers and the works. I just don't know if I need a rental permit and if they would even grant it. Thanks for your advice!!
