does vinyl plank really stand against abuse?

i'm talking about the general 12mil wear layer kind.

I just saw this rental listing on zillow, and its hardwood floor is scratched to hell >>  

so I question whether LVP can even hold up.

You can destroy everything, but LVP is pretty tough. We use it in kitchens and bathrooms. It is warmer tha tile, installs much faster and will not crack on impact (like from a dropped iron skillet). 

We reifinish HWF if we have them or install LVP if there is only subfloor. Keep in mind that there is a big quailty difference between cheap and medium priced LVP.
