Who uses Whole-House Surge Protectors?

Question

Do you use Whole-House Surge Protectors?

If so, what brand?

If not, do to have any fear of your appliances getting burned out?

I am still a bit of a newby on this site.  I appreciate your answers ahead of time! :)

I have one installed in my home.  I have enough electronic equipment that I feel that its' well worthwhile.  In addition, I use high quality (not $8) surge protection power strips on my computer, TV, etc.

I do not bother though on my rentals.  It's an additional cost that no one would ever notice, care about, nor pay more for.  I'd rather pay the $50-100 on something that the tenant will notice and make the house look more attractive to them.

fyi I have one at my current SFR where i live.  The utility/electric power company installed it.  I actually don't see a brand written on it.  I don't have any at any rentals though.

I did have a lightening strike at one rental.  Ruined my AC condensor and the tenant's TV.

I think if I was building new I'd have one put in assuming the cost seemed reasonable.  It would probably give my property an advantage when looking for tenants.
