Cosigner (how does it work)

When you have a parent cosigning for a college student, is the parent's name actually on the lease, or do they sign a separate agreement that they share financially responsibility with the student? thanks

BOTH! As Tamara stated, they are not occupants but sign the lease. But you also want a separate agreement where you emphasize that they are co-signing and are liable for rent payments and damages. You also want to screen the co-signers too, because having a deadbeat as a co-signer is not worth all that much.
