New replacement HVAC System (AC) or fixing it?

Question

2006 Goodman AC Unit for a 1,433 sq. ft. home. $1100 for parts and labor to repair the housing cage, blower motor and wheel. Quote is around 8-10k to replace the unit in AZ. Do you recommend placing or fixing it?

I agree with the suggestions to get a few more opinions.  I'd be leaning more toward repairing it and if replacement was needed down the road do it during a "break" in both the hot and cold weather (I'm assuming this is also a gas pack although it may not be). Replacement costs for an AC unit during the hot summer months often reflect an increase in total cost due to what might be considered an "emergency" situation.

Sometimes fall and spring costs for replacements are quite different than during very hot or cold weather.

Buy a new AC unit in Ohio and then fly it first class to AZ, still be cheaper : )  At those estimates I would repair.

All - thanks for the input. I ended up getting a carrier hvac system for 7817 with a 10 yr manufacturers warranty on parts. I could've gone with a lower end unit but I plan to hold this home for the long term. Also there are price increases coming this fall and I had tenants that needed this fixed asap as temps are +100. They brought a portable ac unit to cool the home until they installed it 5 days later. Now I won't have to worry about it and I have very happy tenants. Came with a free ecobee smart thermostat. I will keep this all in mind with other units as this is the first HVAC system that failed this badly on me.

You need to get other quotes.

Between these 2 options I would do a repair.  You are just fixing the air handler if the outside condensing unit is in good shape you may get a few more years out of system.

I typically pay under 4k for a complete new all electric split HVAC system. That is installed. That is in SC.

look at website ac wholesalers to get an idea what the equipment costs.
