Failed City Building Inspection

Hey all,

I purchased my first 3 unit multi family in May 2021 that I am house hacking. Everything was going great until my town reached out to me and requested to do a building inspection, which I failed.

One of the things I failed was for not having emergency lighting in the hallways and the basement. I have general lights but apparently, the emergency lights need to be connected to some sort of battery(I’m not an electrician) and piping in order for the lights to stay on in case of a power outage. I didn’t think this was a big deal until I got a whopping 3k quote from my electrician to just add 3 emergency lights. I have been inside multiple multis in my area and never have I see emergency lights in the hallways. Has anyone every experienced something like this? Does anyone have recommendations for a cheaper remedy ?

Thanks
