It is CRITICAL to have a well funded PAC this year. Over the next 12 months, we have three HUGE elections and many key issues to be decided. The Upcoming Elections include:
- March of 2026 – Cook County Assessor; Cook County Board President
- November of 2026 – Governor, and all 120 State Representatives and many State Senators
- February 2027 – Mayor of Chicago and all 50 Aldermanic seats
The major attacks on real estate we expect over this time frame are:
- Attempts to eliminate move-in fees at the State and City levels
- Expansion of Tenant Right of First Refusal (called the NW Side Building Ordinance) in Chicago wards
- Attempts to eliminate the Ban on Rent Control in Springfield
Based on your prior support, the PAC has been involved in efforts which:
- Defeated the elimination or capping of move in fees
- Defeated Bring Chicago Home transfer tax increase
- Defeated Just Cause in Evanston
- Stopped Assessor Kaegi from re-classifying small Class 3-18 mixed use buildings to being commercial properties
- Helped elect independent CPS School Board members who were not affiliated with the teachers union
- Reduced the footprint of the Northwest Side Building Ordinance which provides all tenants in the zone with a right of first refusal
- Kept the statewide Rent Control Ban in place despite annual attempts to repeal it
