This presentation will cover the insurance aspects of hiring contractors. Whether you are carrying out a large renovation or just planning to hire a landscaper, you need coverage either directly or through your contractor. We will cover the ins and outs of contract work, including:
When and how to request proof of insurance
What to do if a contractor doesn't want to provide proof of insurance
Listing yourself as a named insured
Notifying your casualty loss insurer if the building will be substantially vacant for a time
"If any" exposures on your workers comp policy
Whether you or other non-contractors ought to be touring the construction site

Part of this presentation will be given by Peter Normand, CLCS. Pete joined Webber & Grinnell in 2017 and he currently leads the agency’s Real Estate Practice Group. Pete is passionate about protecting investments and dreams. He provides comprehensive insurance and risk management solutions based around his clients’ businesses and goals. Pete holds his OSHA 10 Construction certification and is working on his OSHA 10 General Industry certification. Prior to working in the insurance industry, Pete worked in manufacturing, supply chain, and has owned rental properties in Vermont and Western Massachusetts. Pete is a graduate of the University of Massachusetts and a Western Mass native. He lives in Northampton with his wife and two children.
Networking time will be moderated by Patrick Sullivan. Patrick has been an avid landlord since 2007 primarily focusing on multi families in the greater Worcester area. Having worked in high level IT his whole life he looks at things from a different perspective which he applies to real estate. He became a Real Estate agent in 2015 and now primarily focuses on Sober living facilities for people recently out of drug and alcohol treatment centers.
