STR’s and City Zoning Laws

Question about STR's and city zoning. I was planning on turning my primary residence into a STR after moving out. After looking into the local laws and permit process I found out that the home is not able to be a STR unless it were to continue being my primary residence due to current zoning. The city said this is the only way it can be a STR and once it is no longer my primary residence it can no longer be a STR. Anyone ever run into this, or are there any legal loopholes anyone has experienced? Located in College Station, TX

@Derek Adkins I completely agree with @Sarah Wilson. CS is cracking down on Airbnbs that violate the new ordinance. If you're interested in Airbnb here in BCS I highly recommend starting off renting a room in our primary residence. It has done wonders for me and my wife.
