New Vacation Rental - All IKEA?

Question

In the process of procuring a new vacation rental. Has anyone used IKEA to furnish an entire vacation rental? Any advice on the quality standing up to a vacation rental? What is your idea on having someone come in and put all of it together? As a guy, my specialty is not interior decorating but after a trip to IKEA it seems like it could be a one stop shop?

A STR full of ikea stuff definitely feels like one. Folks looking for something unique will scroll past your listing, leaving you to compete with guests seeking a cheap place to stay. As such, you will also be left with all of the problems that come with guests looking to spend as little as possible.

IKEA furniture is crap. Have you ever put anything together form them? Particle board and twist-lock fasteners. And the rest of their decorative stuff looks like it came from IKEA. Cheap, tacky and modernistic. I would never stay in a place that looked like that....even a hotel would be far better. That's what people are trying to get away from...they want a house that feels like home, not a hotel...

@James Loffredo you could do the bulk with IKEA furniture but supplement strategically, whether with furniture or accessories/decorative items that you pick up from vintage stores or at garage sales. The accessories can actually make more of an impact on the character of your property than the actual furniture in my experience.

I have only been to an ikea store once.  What it looked like to me - and I could be wrong - is that everything they sell is particle board.  If that is true - translate that to furniture being destroyed quickly.

Use wayfair or other online retailers. Ikea is not the best for this sort of work honestly. From range of aesthetics to return/shipping policies.

IKEA has some beautiful pieces in market place that will enhance the value of your vacation rental. However, getting all the furnishings from IKEA may not be a good idea for a vacation rental. It will not get the quality of guests you are looking for, your gross revenue will have a negative impact and you will need to replace the furniture more often due to heavy usage.

Hey @James Loffredo, I wouldn't do the whole place in IKEA. I have some pieces in our home. Things that are solid pine that match the other furniture in the bedrooms.

Each queen bedroom has an IKEA night stand and one had the low dresser. Some IKEA stuff is pretty good actually. Lots of items use real wood so I stick with those.
