Folks doing self- managed STR, how are you doing your monthly taxes (hotel-motel tax) etc? This online service is promising a bunch of things inlcuding • Provide you the lodging tax rate specific to your property • Obtain and update any required tax accounts and licenses • File and pay all lodging taxes when due (lodging taxes are filed either monthly or quarterly) • Keep you up-to-date on any changes & communicate with tax agencies on your behalf. its $27 a month per property and there is a one time $299 set up fee. we will be starting with VRBO and AirBNB only for now and it is my understanding that they will remit all taxes in Georgia (verified by county tax office as well). So wondering if spending on this platform is worth it or not.

I use this for all my properties and I have for years. I’ve never seen them make a mistake, and this will make it easier to scale in the future.

I think a service like this gets more valuable as you scale up like @Leslie Anne Morris says. Before you do anything, check to make sure AirBNB and VRBO remit taxes on your behalf. They do for our property and we have no occupancy tax to worry about.

Avalara all the way. They take care of everything. It offers me piece of mind!

To me, the few dollars a month is worth getting that time back. Another vote for the automation, accuracy, and easier scaling. Instead of worrying about paying $27, focus on how to make $1000 more.

@Michael Baum I’m with Leslie on this one. Yea it will cost you a few hundred bucks a year per property but I like the automation and reminders.

I have heard of people creating a spreadsheet. It has formulas for different taxing authorities along with the link to each site to pay the individual tax. I think this is how Luke Carl does it.

I used to think this service was worth it... but I don't think so anymore. I still use them but I have them on my list of things that need to get canceled. It's just not that handy unfortunately. Now if it were $10/month, I'd be alright with it.

Remitting the taxes is easy once you have set up your account with the state. In Florida it is all online, tax form needs to be submitted monthly whether you have income or not. I have found the employees at the tax dept very informative and happy to answer any questions and walk you through the process if needed.

That has been my experience as well. I reached out to the tax assessor's office and they sent me all the information. thats why I am on the fence...
