STR vs LTR - How do you decide?

Posted

My husband and I are purchasing our first investment house, which we plan to rent out immediately. Trying to understand the best route for us just getting into the game....STR vs LTR. We do not live in the city that the house is in - but, my parents and sister/BIL are in the area to help with anything that comes up.

How did you make your decision? Understand STR has the opportunity to make more cash flow, but I like the idea of not having to continue to get folks in all the time with a year long lease.

You could always meet in the middle with regards to the "cashflow vs. maintenance/work needed" debate, and go the STR route, but higher a property manager. If you find one that takes a percentage of your revenue that you are comfortable with, could be the best of both worlds.
