Hello people, I have been to smoky mountain area about 4 times now. I love it down here, I love driving through the winding roads. I love living in a cabin in the mountains as a vacation. In the past I keep looking past this area because driving distance was too far to have any grasp/maintain on the property. But everytime i come back to the area I want to buy a house to rent out as an airbnb. I am not sure how much houses run around here right now in the current market I have been looking on realtor 200k-400k, I am looking for basically a cabin preferably a short distance from pigeon forge and gatlinburg.  I think my range will be somewhere around 300k. Any comments and ideas will be appreciated. I was where the OP was 20 years ago.  We bought our first property in the Smokies in 2005 and now currently own 5 and manage about 30.

We now have a lifetime income stream from the 5 properties, with modest mortgages on just two of them.  The other three are now clear! These will be our kids’ someday, for them to enjoy the income from!

We have also made countless memories at our primary cabin. Friends, family, extended family. 

We bought cabin 1 right before the Great Recession so on paper we had lost our shirt for a few years.  But the value eventually recovered and zoomed upward, and the rental income is amazing.
