Is Proper vacation rental insurance worth it?

Karen Kwak
Posted

We started a luxury vacation rental business this year, and summer is going pretty well. We have a house right in the lake and have a pool. When we shopped around for the property insurance, because of the size and price of the house, it was really hard to find one and ended up getting Proper insurance. But the price is really high. I’m wondering if it’s worth keeping it, and I would like to hear insurance experiences on luxury vacation homes. Thanks in advance!

Quote from @Mike Grudzien:

Farmers Insurance has a rental insurance division called: Foremost.
Could be worth checking out through a Farmer's agent

Foremost is an insurance company based in Michigan that is owned by Farmers which itself is owned by Zurich.

Foremost underwrites many types of insurance but dwelling insurance for long and short term rentals is one of their specialties.

Many independent insurance agencies represent Foremost which is advantageous to working with a captive Farmers agent because we have options beyond Foremost and can shop the market on your behalf.  For instance, we represent Foremost, Travelers, Steadily, Obie, American Modern, ReInsurePro (agent version of NREIG), and many more.
