Golf Cart/LSV Liability

Michael Cecil
Posted

I'm new to hosting. We have a listing in the Florida Panhandle on 30A. Golf carts that are Low Speed Vehicles (LSV) are allowed on roadways that have speed limits up to 30mph. Many listings supply a golf cart with their rental. I'm having difficulty finding insurance liability coverage for the LSV. I can't find an STR policy that will agree to cover it. I can get coverage for my personal use from multiple insurance companies but not for guest use at a reasonable price. I found 1 insurer that would cover it for a $9,000 premium. I've read on here that Formost insurance will offer such a policy also but they do not after my conversation with them. I will have guests sign a waiver but unfortunately that doesn't fully protect me from a liability suit if there were an accident. Any advice would be appreciated.

We just went through this. Found it best to not own the cart itself but to recommend a third party that will drop the golf cart off at the property before guests arrive & pick it back up when they leave. We avoid any liability & our guests still have the golf cart option it is just not billed through their STR purchase. I know the 30A & Destin area have golf cart rental places everywhere. Might be worth exploring & saving your cart for personal use only.
