Is a short term rental profitable if you have to hire property manager to oversee?

I know there are a number of STR operators that manage their own. At this present time I don't recall seeing any people bragging about their ( STR) Short term rentals that have to utilize the services of a property manager.

Has anyone scaled or even had a successful Short term rental having someone else manage it?

With my 2 STRs, I had to do everything myself to make enough of a profit to make it worthwhile.....

And they were bought with cash so no mortgage.....
