Hawaii Rental Properties

Hi,

My name is Nicholas and I currently live in Pearl Harbor Hawaii. I'm getting out of the military in about 3 months and i was interested in generating income through rental properties while i attend college full time. I have no experience in buying or renting homes and i know Hawaii is extremely expensive to live in. That being said, I just wanted to connect with people and see what I can learn about buying for the first time (in high cost areas) or anywhere. I will gladly take book recommendations, tips, tricks or any useful information i can get. I think I can thrive in the industry because of my drive and motivation, I just want to learn more before i dive in. Also veterans, if you have any info on the VA loan that they don't advertise, my ears are open. Thank you all for your time and I hope to hear from you!

Hi Nicholas,

Welcome to the investing world.  Hawaii is a hard place due to high prices but is totally do able.  My wife and I started just over a year ago and have bought two places so far and are closing on a five unit apartment building today on the big island.  It takes a lot of work and determination, but will be worth it in the end.  Good luck
