STR HOA Rules/General Questions

So I've been looking into potentially investing with the intention of a STR and have come up with a few questions

1) is it basically a given that no HOA would allow that (my current doesn't)?

1a) If that's not the assumption, how likely would they be to give me their rules if I just called up the HOA to ask if they allowed STR?

1b) If you aren't marketing with the address or outside photos...would you ever list and risk being caught by the HOA?

2) Is the data from AirDNA useful? It seems like even with the rates on lowest months of occupancy, I could make more money than a standard rental.

I'm sure that I've forgotten a few others things, but I'm currently on vacation (staying at a place from VRBO).

HOA docs are publicly recorded documents. HOA's can tend to be overly protective of them but you can obtain them from the courthouse, etc. seller's can and should provide copies with their property disclosure.

Failure or refusal to provide them always makes me think twice...and dig deeper before moving on a deal.
