What are you using to keep your rentals fresh?

Question

Just wanted to get an idea on what other hosts are using to keep their rentals fresh for your guests. Infusers, air fresheners, candles? Are your cleaners proactively doing this? Thanks!

I think it's a bad idea to use any kind of a chemical to freshen. A lot of people don't like the smell on a lot of people are allergic. Really bad idea

I don't do anything.  I might open up the windows on a breezy day if they've been closed up awhile, but that is it.  My tenants work in a refinery.  Their clothes, shoes, gloves get diesel fuel and its precursors all over them.  Most of them smoke too.  They can't smell anything.  If there was a dead skunk in the crawlspace, they'd never notice.  But they do notice the grills.  Grilling is one civilized thing they can do to unwind after work while drinking beer and whiskey.  There's going to be 5000 contractors coming through town in the next 8 months.  I'm bringing all my grills home, cleaning them up, repairing them, then painting them.

Please do not use chemical smells to “freshen.” When I smell these, I automatically wonder what odors are trying to be covered up.

Moreover, an increasing number of people are becoming sensitive to chemical smells, myself included, so I have had to switch to unscented everything. If I entered a place with a strong chemical smell, I get a migraine and frankly it would likely ruin my expensive vacation and you would get a bad review. I would need to be able to remove the source (plug-in or what have you) and air the place out, although it’s not always that easy (carpet cleaning products and dryer sheets tend to be the most problematic for me as they linger).

I always travel with young children as well and do not want to expose them to that.

Just my 2 cents...avoid adding artificial smells.

I tried to use the plugins but they just don't last that long. Like @John Underwood says, a clean house just smells good by itself.

I do use the little fragrance packages here and there. Subtle in smell but it makes a difference. Something like this.

Our cleaners clean the house very well. A clean house smells good by itself.

We have used plug in air fresheners too.
