Washcloths disappearing like crazy?

Question

Anyone else have their washcloths disappear at a high rate? I'm guessing that guests use them to wipe up spills or remove makeup and then trash them because they're embarrassed about the mess they've made on the towel.

I even have those special black makeup towels but my washcloths are still disappearing like crazy!

(I do acknowledge that there are certainly people on here facing much larger problems than this, but hey, I'm still annoyed at losing all these washcloths!)

I don't live hand to mouth.  If some things disappear, I just replace it and go on with my life.  It's a cost of doing business.  Sometimes my handmade artwork disappears.  I consider that a compliment.

I've been in hotels that say you can feel free to take whatever linens you like. They then provide a "price list" and state the total of the items will be added to your final bill.

@Martin Neal Wow I’m doing that and it’s working and I didn’t even realize it. My listing says exactly how many towels/wash clothes in each bathroom..... Because I got sick of guests asking for more towels etc. “this is exactly what you’re getting don’t expect something else” is the best way to run the show.

I like the idea of putting up a price list for the dish clothes or other items.  Cute and slightly cheeky-plus then you can bill them for the items.

@Mark Miles If you’re having trouble with them disappearing, I would try putting a note about how many are supplied just to let them know that you are counting. This should discourage theft. Otherwise, you may have to caulk it up as a business expense.

Regarding the toilet paper thing, I expect that to be history in a couple weeks (or less). Those that felt the need to hoard that item (no idea why) already did and soon the stores will be stocked and a lot of people have a 4 year supply so won't be buying more soon...Probably the same with cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer, bread, milk, eggs, flour and some of the other "empty shelf" items. We haven't purchased a single item related to the virus scare. We already have tp, soap, bleach and whatnot. I go through the store and just shake my head in wonder.

@Mark Miles great to see ANYTHING thats not bad news. I honestly can’t remember the last time I bought wash clothes for a property that wasn’t a new acquisition. Which means I’ll be getting the text from cleaners soon!

This may be a bit disgusting but in the last couple weeks, I've had almost all of the towels, hand towels, wash cloths disappear. Normally they would just leave them damaged but, the last two weeks they literally just disappeared. My theory is that the guests were not able to procure TP (I only provide a starter supply), so they resorted to using my towels and threw them away. Yuck!

I’ve bought those towels before - they’re nice! Now i’m thinking i need to revert to the cheap $1 washcloths though. Anyway, glad to see your calendar is full as well!

All about buying in the right places. People will always need somewhere to escape to, even in tough times - helps if it’s in a location with desirable year-round weather and easy for folks to get there

( though I do admit, since my houses are staying full, I am running a smidge low on toilet paper. But I guess if that’s my biggest issue then I’ve really got nothing to complain about)
