Introduction - Looking to Learn - From NY..Where do I start?

Question

Hey guys how's it going? I'm looking to learn about investing in Real Estate, and was advised to check out BiggerPockets. I know there's SO much to learn, so can anybody point me in the right direction regarding where I can get a good foundation on understand the Real Estate process? Are there stickys or newbie guides for me to read?

@Jason R. Welcome Jason! Definitely read as many books as you can.  I would also suggest anything that you have questions on, go to the search box or search the threads.  There is information in these threads that are not in books.  I promise you it will save you tons of time, money, and head aches.  You really can not put a price on it, once you get more familiar the Pro account has invaluable info, connections, and tools as well.  I am new as well but if you need anything just let me know! @Jason R. welcome - I live in NYC and invest in other markets. I recommend getting some books under your belt too. Here's a good list:

the links Dave provided are great sources to start building your foundation. It will help with getting some of the commonly used terminology  (ie. ARV, wholesaler, etc), you will see in the forums, hear on the podcast, and when you go to REIA meetings.

Speaking REIA meetings, you will also want to find out where and when they are held. REIA meetings will give you more localized information about your home market and network with local investors that you will be doing business with in the future. Bring business cards and don't worry about being new.

Hey Jason. Welcome to the site.

I'm very new to the ideas presented here as well, but I can say that the podcasts that the BP guys do are invaluable. That's how I found the site was through the podcast search in itunes. Each one is chocked full of great info about various approaches to the real estate investing world. I highly recommend them!
