Let me reintroduce myself
Hi everyone, my name is Jason Malabute.
From a young age, my parents planted the seed of entrepreneurship in me. I was born with cerebral palsy, and they always reminded me that I might face more challenges landing high-paying jobs compared to my able-bodied peers. So they encouraged me early on to create my own path—to build something of my own.
I’m incredibly grateful for that mindset. Even as a kid, I was always dreaming about what kind of business I could run. I just didn’t know what that business would be—until I discovered real estate investing.
Here’s my journey:
- I earned my accounting degree in 2011 and went on to get my MBA.
- In 2013, I started working at an accounting firm in Los Angeles doing tax, payroll, tax planning, and more.
- I became a CPA in 2015.
- In 2017, while preparing a client’s return, I saw firsthand the power of passive income through real estate.
- In 2018, I started investing in Indianapolis—buy-and-hold, BRRRR strategy, and building out-of-state teams.
- In 2020, I transitioned into multifamily real estate. It wasn’t easy. I must have underwrote over a hundred deals before landing my first one.
- In 2021, I left my accounting job thinking I’d be the next Grant Cardone or Donald Trump (spoiler: it didn’t happen right away).
- But after years of persistence, I’m now a GP in a 106-unit and a 236-unit multifamily deal in Atlanta, Georgia.
While being a full-time investor, I saw a real need: real estate investors were looking for CPAs who actually understood what they were going through—because they’ve done it themselves.
So last year, I launched Malabute & Company CPAs, a firm dedicated to serving real estate investors and entrepreneurs. In just a few months, we’ve grown to 22 clients—all organically.
And that brings me back to BiggerPockets. This community played a huge role in my journey. Back in 2018, I was posting nearly every day. I watched nearly every podcast episode. And in 2021, when I met Brandon Turner and David Greene at BPCon, I was completely starstruck.
If you ever have questions about tax strategies, entity structuring, or accounting for your real estate business—I’m always happy to help. This is what I love doing.
Let’s connect!
