Career Pivot to RE

Hi from NYC! 👋

Why I'm here: I hit 6 years working in tech as a product manager and am now taking a sabbatical. With a bit more financial stability and a lot more time, I'm exploring what a pivot into real estate could look like. I'm particularly interested in house hacking and/or long term rentals for this stage in my career. So far, I've read a few books (How to Invest in Real Estate and Rich Dad, Poor Dad) and have been practicing underwriting properties. Now, I'm looking for the next step. If you're an investor in NYC looking for an extra set of hands as I learn more about the business, reach out! Otherwise, what's one thing you would recommend to a new investor getting started?

Outside of work, I love playing pickleball, line dancing, and am taking an acting class. Looking forward to being part of and learning from the community!

welcome! sounds like you've got a great foundation to start from.  as I'm sure you'll find here there are lots of ways to leverage real estate to meet your financial goals.  however, you don't need to change careers to leverage that, if you are drawn to it and it lights you up than rock and roll, but just because you like the asset and want to be involved does not need to require a career change.  and keeping a solid w2 or other provable income often helps in lending.
