Newbie - happenstance landlord

I suppose you could call me an 'incidental' landlord (temporarily).

I'm new here and usually a forum lurker, but hope to change that starting with BP. I'm in Germany at the moment with my husband on an expat assignment for his job so we're renting out our primary residence back in Louisiana. I've always wanted to invest in real estate and have worked in every aspect of it except selling it (insurance, lending & homeowner). Some may say it's an excuse, but I don't see us investing from here, so I'll be researching my butt off to be ready to hit the ground running when we return stateside. 

I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can and network here (from abroad).
