Hello! Excited about the possibilities here. My wife and I are BRAND NEW to real estate investing, though I have been working around and in real estate for many years. We are hoping for more education, wisdom, and networking here. Our focus is 1-4 family unit residences. We like the idea of making neglected properties better places to live as well as more profitable.

Timothy, welcome to BP and real estate investing!  My husband and I are also investing with a mission - to revitalize a poor neighborhood, to give people with poor housing options a chance, and to try to understand the poverty issue up close and personal with eyes and heart to better solutions.  This has been a bad year, but overall it has been a good experience, and we probably wouldn't do things much differently.  You might want to check out out podcast (#79) and my BP member blog.
