Newbie in Roseville, CA

Hello Bigger Pockets family! My name is Jason and I live here in the Sacramento CA area. I currently work as a mortgage specialist for a big bank but I am in the process of getting my RE agent license.

I am a knowledge seeker and while educating myself for my license I fell in love with real estate as a whole just like most of you.

 This obsession as I would call it has led me to consume every book, podcast, and forum post I can get my hands on. I appreciate everyone on this site for the wealth of knowledge they are willing to share and the welcome arms displayed for newbies.

If anyone knows of any REIA type meetings in the area coming up I'd appreciate it (I reached out to the couple in the area I found but there are currently no meetings scheduled).

My goal so far (please feel free shoot holes in this plan as I love learning from constructive criticism)...once I get my 'wife hack' situation figured out (she is the greatest woman I know but is one of the most risk adverse people I've ever met. Haha), is to personally learn about rehab and building my 'team' by first buying an owner occupied. Following the 70% rule with a FHA 203K loan since there are so many contractor 'stipulations' I see it as a safeguard to some of the things I may not know about. If all goes well and we finish with decent equity in the home my wife has proof I can do it and I start my future in fix and flips and eventually with enough capital buy and holds to build up a passive income portfolio.

Well, thanks for reading my post and my apologies for the length. (Newbie energy I guess!)

@Jason Bolton welcome to BiggerPockets. My name is Fanon Hutchins, and I am a local Realtor in the Sacramento area. I am also looking to start fix and flip properties in our area. I wish you the best of luck, and plenty of success.

@Jason Bolton

Congrats on taking steps to move forward with real estate. We have two REIA's in Sacramento which hold their main meetings once per month. Google Sacramento REIA and you will get NorCal REIA and Sac REIA. I have heard of a new group, either REIA or meet up in Roseville. It's fairly new and I don't know anything about it except there is a group.

There is a local meet up of BP people every three months or so.  Watch for that.  It's been held downtown for the past 3 meetings.

Good luck,

@Jason Bolton bp has some great resources. There is a Roseville real estate investor group that meets every month. It is at I live in Roseville also so if you ever have questions about real estate investing, you can ask me.

Welcome to BP @Jason Bolton , glad to have you here. I know the Roseville area quite well, though I´d never move back there. Sounds like you have a strong strategy for starting out - as many others here have said - and you´re in an excellent place for learning more. I agree with @Mark Nolan and highly recommend that you spend some time in the Learn section; the amount of information and insight available on this website is just incredible, and I have recently found the BP Podcast to be an excellent introduction to various ideas and strategies.

Bp is full of great resources & people. Lots of access to free info. Ive just passed my RE exam so i can be fully engulfed in all things RE. Still very interested in fix & flip & out of state
