Hey all! I am currently living in southern Indiana and want to begin investing in some Louisville real estate.
To get started, I would really like to find experienced investors who I could do some work with in exchange for showing me the ropes. I work during the day, but would be committed to donating any of my free time to learn the trade. I am interested in trying to possibly start out with wholesaling and flipping to generate some cash, and then reinvest into some buy-and-hold properties down the road.
I have no experience other than when I bought my own home, and at this point would be looking for any type of real world experience I can get my hands on.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions of groups or meetups that I should try to attend. I'm not sure whether or not I would be too inexperienced to show up to some local investor meetings.
Here is one next week in
Welcome to Bigger Pockets. It is a good place to connect with real estate professionals and to learn about real estate. For example, you set up key word alerts. http://www.biggerpockets.com/alerts
I highly recommend the KREIA meetings every month. There's one in Southern Indiana as well (for the sub-group out there).
Start here and learn your a$$ off...
If you're wanting to flip first (what I'm doing), I highly recommend getting a copy of J. Scott's books:
I'm just finishing up both of them now. The resources for the statement of work (SOW) are proving invaluable to me, now that I'm almost finished with my first flip and know more about what is going on. As I move into my second and third house, the SOW by itself will save massive amounts of time.
@ClaySmith The Fern Creek meetup sounds great! It seems that all of the people planning on attending seem to be seasoned investors, Being completely inexperienced, would my wife and I be out of place?
@AdamnRoehm Thank you for the recommendations. I have been trying to learn everything that I can online and will definitely have to check out the books that you recommended. That is awesome that you are finishing up your first flip! What kind of funding did you use and how did you find the deal?
@MarkNolan Thank you for the advice! I have set up a couple of keywords already and they have certainly helped direct me to relevant posts that I am looking for.
You won't be out of place. These are casual meetings and all are welcomed. Usually there just as many 'new' investors with little or no actual experience. Hope to see you there.
