Building with Shipping containers

Hey BP family,

I'm new here and have learned so much in such a short time as a member. It's really awesome how everyone help each other out on here. I'm from Miami, FL and have only recently begun to take the whole real estate investment thing serious after finishing school. I look forward to interacting with everyone and growing my love and passion for real estate.

So I've been really impressed with how some people have transformed shipping containers into these really nice homes. Would anyone know if Miami-Dade county allows shipping containers homes to be built with the current building codes? I'm curious if anyone down here has looked into it. The building department in Miami Dade isn't the easiest to hear back from lol.

I don't know anything about that area specifically, but I think an architect and engineer just has to sign off on the design for it to be accepted by local building codes. I have been looking into doing this in the metro Detroit area. There is one that a local builder just finished here and it sold the first day one market.

I'm really interested in combining green efficient housing with the storage unit concept and integrating some sort of home garden with the design, similar to how restaurants are growing their own greens. I know it's very niche but I absolutely love the concept!
