Hello Everyone!

I am a consultant and a new real estate investor. Several years ago, my husband and I were introduced to a couple who made their living with buy and hold rental properties. Because of the freedom that comes with this business, they were able to travel frequently and have visited almost every country in the world. Then, earlier this year we were able to sell our first home purchase for a profit and the benefits of real estate investing became even more apparent.

Bitten with the real estate investment bug, we are now all in. We are currently in the research and planning phase. From what we have seen, buy and hold rental properties appears to be the best option to start out with while working full time -- any feedback on this statement is greatly appreciated :). Househacking is currently not an option for the next year. We have a short term goal of purchasing our first investment property by April, 2017 and the long term goal is to have our real estate properties be our primary source of income, preferably within the next 5-7 years.

I read in another forum that a good way to get started in real estate is with free internships. Does anyone know of any opportunities in the Milwaukee/Chicago area? Also, I noticed that many of the meetups and networking events posted on BP in Milwaukee have slowed down since Winter. Are there other networking events that folks attend in the area?

Thanks in advance for any responses!!
