Hello. My name is Byron Taylor and I am an Anesthesiologist who relocated to Atlanta, GA from Philadelphia, PA last year for work. I have been listening to the BP podcasts, watching the webinars, and reading the suggested books. I recognize that now it's time for me to take action (I can hear Brandon's voice in my head as I type this).
Atlanta is a beautiful city and the housing market is rapidly evolving. I've read a lot of redevelopment news (Mercedes Benz Stadium, Turner Field/GA State redevelopment plan, SW belt line expansion, etc.) for the southern and southwestern areas of the city.
I'm interested in both single family and small multifamily homes that I will buy and hold as rentals. I would like to began my search in south (Summer Hill, Peoplestown) and southwest (Pittsburgh, Adair Park, Oakland, Westend, Ash View Heights, Bankhead) Atlanta. I'm particularly interest in learning how to find pre/foreclosures, auction sales, bank owed properties in addition to the FMLS listings. I would greatly appreciate any advice that will help me connect with professionals who specialize in these areas of Atlanta and this type of real estate investing.
I recognize that many of the properties in this region of the city will need some work. I'm a complete novice when it comes to estimating rehab cost and finding local contractors. If you know of any professional contractors who work in this area of the city, please feel free to share their information with me.
I have heard some amazing success stories on the BP podcasts and I'm eager to get started.
Cheers!

Byron D. Taylor Welcome to BP! I researched the Atlanta area for potential investing a few years ago, but didn't pull the trigger. Research the areas, Trulia crime maps are helpful until you get familiarized with the area. Some neighborhoods are deceiving.
I was just there last week driving down National Ave. (Fulton County) which looked to have nice homes, compared to some parts of Philly, but my brother (who lives there) was telling me that particular strip area was rough and locals referred to National Ave as "Ol' Nasty." So, yes seek out local REI Meet-ups to network with other investors that may have the investor friendly contractors, insight and other referrals you need.
Good luck!
