Newbie from Boston STR

Hi Everyone! I'm Bryce Watson, 32, currently living in Gloucester, MA.

I am completely new to Investing in real estate. I am interested in Rental Property Investing, mainly STR. As the cost of housing in my area is high, I am looking at areas in Maine for potential investment. My father also owns a home in Long Beach, CA that I would like to convert several rooms into STR to supplement his income.

I have a Mechanical Engineering degree, but am currently working in business as a Supply Chain Manger. My natural skills are attention to detail, math, analytics and problem solving. Hoping these will help make my first endeavor successful. 

In the next 6 month I would like to convert several rooms into STR at the property in Long Beach. I have been looking at AirDNA and reading up on Long Beach Zoning and Ordinance laws. Perhaps someone can point me to the right forum to get some more insight on these laws.

So much to learn...any recommended books or sites I should look into for this besides the forums here?
