New Member- Looking to Purchase a duplex and "house hack" on LI

Hello,

I'm new to real estate investing. These message boards are filled with information. Hopefully it will help me start out on the right path to successfully invest in real estate. In time I hope I can contribute to other new investors to pass on the knowledge as well.

My Situation:  My Fiancee and I are planning on purchasing a 2 family, by CO,  home on Long Island in the next few months (or sooner). We have been mainly looking in eastern Nassau, or Suffolk county Bayport Area. North or South shore is acceptable. House price: 550k max.

Our plan is to live in the house a few years and with help of a tennant, save quickly for another down payment on a house of our own, or another 2 family home.

We have been looking primarily at 2 family by CO homes, should we open up to accessory apartment homes as well? We aren't afraid to do some work to improve the house.

I'd be interested in speaking with investor friendly brokers and experienced investors on LI.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Regards,

Scott
