Newbie from San Diego, moving to Colorado

Good Afternoon Everybody,

As the title states, I've been living (renting) in San Diego for the last few years and am planning on moving to Denver/Boulder area Colorado in the next year-and-a-half for grad school.

I'm very new to real estate and am still learning the basic ins and outs. I'd like to find a single family home to live in initially, and eventually rent out. I intend to try to finance this using a VA loan, as I'll be leaving the military just before this happens. Any suggestions or suggested reading would be greatly appreciated!
