Newbie in NYC (maybe Dallas)

I'm a newbie currently in NYC, but looking to relocate for both a change of pace and more beginner friendly real estate opportunities (looking at Dallas). I've read the BP book on rental properties and have been lurking the forums for a few weeks. Looking to make my first purchase by the end of the year 2018. I'm excited!
