New member and investor from Austin, TX

Hello Y'all!  TJ Clinch from Austin, TX here.  Moved to Austin from Houston 8 years ago and got started in real estate as a Realtor about 5 years ago.  My wife introduced me to BiggerPockets and after listening to several episodes, we are ready to start the journey to financial freedom.

As a Realtor the paycheck is unpredictable and with a baby on the way its time we work on generating passive income. We plan to flip SFH's so that we can invest in buy and holds in other markets since finding 1% in Austin is tough.

Here to help in anyway, cheers!

TJ

Thomas,

Get a mentor, stay away from paid courses and start attending the local REI meetings....

I've done 100's of flips from San Angelo to Bastrop and everywhere in between... There is a large learning curve.

If you find a good mentor you can avoid many costly mistakes.

I wish... I am in Greece for another 4 months. Dan Castro is flying solo with some guest speakers until i get back. Give him a hug for me when you see him!

@Allison Stewart , thanks for the advice.  My wife and I have considered house hacking.  We have been on the look out for a turn key duplex in South Austin with a few other filters/specifics.

Appreciate your feedback, how long have you been investing in Austin and/or surrounding areas?

@Thomas Clinch we've been investing in Austin for the last 2 years.

It's hard to find a turn-key duplex (and the numbers won't make sense on them even if you do find them), but there are a lot of good options South if you're willing to put in some sweat equity! I understand that's a bit more difficult with a new baby on the way but it's doable. We bought our first duplex when our baby was 3 months old and did a renovation on both sides, so I get it. Whatever you decide, I wish you the best of luck!

Yes, Austin is one of my favorite Texas cities. I lived in the San Antonio area from 1991 to 2001.

I've been in Denver since 2008 and joined Bigger Pockets in January 2015. There is so much great information here!

I'm glad you're happy with your move.
