I'm Chiel, relatively new in REI. My background is in finance, accounting and currently working as CFO of an IT company. I'm 28 years old, just bought a new house for me and my girlfriend to live in and now looking forward to step into real estate investering.
I'm living in the Netherlands, in the eastern part (Deventer). My goals in real estate are to become financially independent by investing in rental units and probably later also in developing or rehab of buildings into apartments or houses. For this year, i've set myself a goal to buy at least two properties which have to generate me a cashflow of € 400,- per month.
What i'm currently looking for is just properties, since the market in the Netherlands is quite overheated. My strategy for this is:
- I have found contacts with an experienced financial advisor which will give me access to the investor market and who is an investor by himself.
- I have set up contacts with various real estate agents in my region
- I have joined some meet-ups and thinking about setting up my own in my city.
I hope to find here more information about how to handle my investments, how to finance them and find other real estate investors in my region which I can meet. And looking forward to meet you all!
@Chiel Slinkman , sounds like you are off to a strong start! Find a steady pace and keep going. How are the deals in The Netherlands?
Welcome to the BP Community,
Hi @Chiel Slinkman , nice to have you on the BP community.
You are on to the right things with your goals. Make sure to make contacts of use your already existing contacts to create a good project. Although it is more difficult in the hot market that we are, they are still out there. Perhaps listen to one of the last BP podcasts with J Scott was the guest, as they talk about having a strategy in the upcoming year where a possible dip could occur.
Would love to help you with some insider tips, however, I moved from the Netherlands to Spain and I am active there in Barcelona and Valencia. Btw, I am also working in the IT sector. What I can advise you, though, is attending one of the meet ups already out there. Recently, I went to one hosted in Amsterdam by @Geert Schuring (not sure if the hyperlink is working). There you will get to know potential interesting contacts.
Good luck and feel free to reach out at any time,
Hi @Erwin Groenendijk ,
Thanks for the advice and warm welcome! Yes, i'm already getting in contact with some connections from which I know that they are already in the real estate business. And have had a meeting with an local agent who will help me searching for a deal.
I'm listening every morning to the BP podcasts, have not heard that one yet but probably it will be playing in the next weeks. I have already been once to the meet-up from Geert and if it fits my agenda, i will also join the next one again! Did you move to Spain for your investments?
@Eric Gamble ; thanks for the welcome! Finding deals is very hard at the moment, since it looks like everybody is investing in real estate now. You have to rely on your network is what i hear all the time, since it's so overheated. That's why i'm building up my network here locally to increase my chances on finding a good deal. Have you ever invested in Europe?
No, I have not invested in Europe. It is definitely one of my goals, and my wife would absolutely love it if I did.
Keep me in mind, for the future.
Will do when it comes up. Let me know when you're planning to make the step.
@Chiel Slinkman , no moved to Spain three years ago for work. Actually, it is here where I got the real estate interest and since then planning everything that I do around it. We are flipping apartments and since recently also buildings, our aim being to have one new project every month. Do you perhaps know other Dutch people that are investing internationally?
Would be nice to meet up in Holland the next time I am there and when there is a meet up organized by Geert. Send him my greetings if you talk to him.
@Erwin Groenendijk , interesting. Have you been presenting your company on one of the meetups in Amsterdam? I think I was on that meeting, sounds like you or one of your colleagues was there.
Don't know at the moment, only people who invest in the Netherlands.
@Chiel Slinkman , exactly that was us. Anyways, good luck with your next steps and if you need any help feel free to ask us whatever you need.
