I just bought my first duplex and im FREAKING OUT!

My wife and I just recently purchased our first duplex and are extremely excited/nervous to get started. A couple of reasons for our angst are

- Closed two days ago, introduced ourselves to the tenants we inherited, informed them of us purchasing the property and that we needed to sit down and go over how to go about paying rent and new procedures we want to implement. Haven't heard from them yet.

- Have not received an old lease from the seller

- Don't know the next steps if we don't hear from our tenants.

really we want to know are we freaking out too fast or is this something to be worried about.

our duplex is in Kansas City MO

@Joe Windsor

When I help a client we sign an agreement to transfer the lease. If you don’t do this you can run into a tenant not paying a lease since you don’t have one in place. I’d reach out to an attorney, was it on the mls?
