Putting design in its place...
I am an architect in Atlanta market and looking to change the way the I work with the current builders in the area. I want to drive better design, tighter (realistic!!!)budgets, and faster resales.
I am looking to educate myself how the financial side of the development business works.

Being the wife of a plumbing contractor I can give you at least one tip to help you if you are serious about keeping costs down, get the plumbing as close together as possible in your design. It isn't as big of a deal if your city allows PEX but if it has to be copper you want to use as little copper as possible. When we design our small efficient homes to build for affordability we always keep kitchen and bathroom close together in whatever way we can. There are many things you can do to save construction costs but this one can be a good one that some non plumbers overlook. Also although tankless water heaters are a bit pricier they are the wave of future, save energy costs and so do not skimp there GO TANKLESS!! It takes up less space in the house as well. TANKED WATER HEATERS ARE OUT!! ALL Americans have the RIGHT to unlimited hot water LOL
