Getting started in Florida (northeast)

Hi, I'm Shannon and am from Florida in the Jacksonville/St. Augustine vicinity. I am just getting started with Real estate investing and have been listening to all the podcasts on my morning runs. I'm interested in buying and holding and have been looking at local foreclosures. I'm not sure whether to contact a realtor or to learn to go through auctions. For my day job, I'm a Client Manager managing HR Applications for a Canadian Bank. So real estate investing will be something I do on the side. I'd love to find others in my area to form a mastermind group or to simply network. I definitely have a few ideas about my niche and would love to get feedback.
